About the Collection
The Edwin A. Link Special Collection, in physical and electronic form, is housed in the Evans Library. The focus of this collection is on Ed Link's later life, accomplishments, and inventive genius in oceanography and ocean engineering. The collection is a rich resource of scholarly original source material.
Ed Link re-traced the voyages of Columbus and explored the areas of the West Indies touched by Spanish explorers. He made significant discoveries during his undersea explorations of the Eastern Mediterranean Sea.
The collection includes charts, maps, photographs, and working papers from these voyages of discovery. The photographic archive alone will provide scholars and explorers with material for decades of further study.
Ed Link's innovations in deep sea exploration were far ahead of his time. Solving the enormous technical challenges of designing and building autonomous undersea exploration vehicles, Ed Link pioneered today's deep-sea oceanographic voyages.
